We have had chickens in our possession on and off for 3 or so years. Since our currents chickens have slowed way down in their egg production we decided it was time to say goodbye. I really enjoy having fresh eggs and for the kids to have a daily chore that carries some responsibility. So I was a bit tenetive about proceeding but the scale seemed to tip in favor of having chicken broth verses a few eggs every week and so we went ahead. As a last confession I must admit that there might have been a time or two that the chickens weren't watered or fed as well as they probably would have liked so I hope they won't hold it against us in the after life.
I will spare you the details but as my girls watched from the top of our swing set my two youngest daughters observed that it looked like the chickens were dancing and doing gymnastics. I'm glad they weren't too traumatized!!!
In all seriousness we have been very grateful for having the chickens be a part of our family. Some of the chickens were so tame you could pet them and our youngest daughter was a pro at catching them. I've learned a few lessons from our chickens and hope our kids have too!!! So next time you're over and soups on you can thank Alma the chicken for her great support and blessing our lives and yours.
