One of my favorite reads!!!

With our family focusing on virtue I reread Jane Eyre just recently and wanted to share how wonderful I think this book is.  My husband actually read it the same time as me and enjoyed it very much.  (It does have a few sentences with amazing action to keep the adventure readers still hooked.)  It's obviously not an adventure epoch but the truths of human nature are so universal to something can be gained by both men and women.

I love Jane's character for her courage to face a situation with determination and a willingness to not surrender her moral beliefs and standards even in the face of her love for someone else.

As she wages this inward battle to make a decision which will determine her future happiness she arrives at this thought.  "I care for myself.  The more soiltary, the more friendless, the more unsustained I am, the more I will respect myself.  I will keep the law given by God; sanctioned by man.  I will hold to the principles received by me. . ..  Laws and principles are not for the times when there is no temptation:  they are for such moments as this, when body and soul rise in mutiny against their rigour; stringent are they; inviolate they shall be."

To see a virtuous young woman standing firm and proclaiming there is a need to keep the laws of God is profound to me.  I want to celebrate her triumph.  Although it is in a work of fiction, Charlotte Bronte captures the feelings of my heart and I am so thankful she chose to portray Jane this way.

Definetely one of my most favorite fictional books.  If you haven't read it yet, work it in to your life somehow.  It is worth your time.
